January 17, 2018, DeSoto, TX - The DeSoto Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the hiring of a key staff member, building on its 56 years of community and economic development. Derrius M. Montgomery has joined the staff as the new Vice-President of Member Engagement and will be responsible for managing the organization’s Member Recruitment and Business Retention portfolio. In this role, Montgomery will work to improve the Chamber’s regional influence by tailoring programs, services and events to better serve the needs of its 300 members across the Best Southwest Region.   

Laura Terhune, CEO of the Desoto Chamber stated, “We are excited to have Derrius join our team.” She added, “As we continue to expand, nurture and promote our business community, we look forward to enriching our small business programs, events and services that better serve the growing needs of our members.”

Montgomery brings a wealth of knowledge in marketing and communication as well as advocacy and community engagement to the position. He is the Managing Partner of J. Braxton Media – a lifestyle marketing agency that specializes in connecting nonprofits, organizations, and corporate brands to multicultural consumers where the live, work, and play. Derrius has also served as the Program Coordinator for the Louisiana Spirit Crisis Counseling Program under the auspice Louisiana Department of Health, Office of Behavioral Health; Baton Rouge City Director for Stand for Children Louisiana – a national parent lead educational advocacy organization. Most recently he served on Mayor-President, Sharon Weston Broome’s Transition Committee, as a member of the Office of Community Development Transition Team.  

The Chamber has a staff of four, including Montgomery. Terhune has been with the Chamber for four years as CEO. Prior to 2014, she had managed other Chambers of Commerce over a nineteen-year career. Brittani Washington manages Marketing/Communications & Events; she has been with the Chamber for a little more than two years. Marjorie Maldonado is the Business Manager who handles bookkeeping, office operations and coordinates the Chamber’s Retention Plan.

Terhune said, “We are excited to have Derrius join the Chamber team.” She concluded, “We would like to invite all of our members and community leaders to make an appointment to meet Derrius. He is going to help us take the organization to a new level of value-oriented services and professionalism.”The DeSoto Chamber of Commerce is a member-owned organization established in 1962 and serves as the “Voice of Business” in the community. The mission of the Chamber is to improve the economy, providing useful information, marketing opportunities and other beneficial services to local businesses, visitors and newcomers.
